Craster

Local children diving from the pier.

Craster itself is a quaint and picturesque fishing village and a perfect centre for excellent walks along the coast to the north and south. It is also the home of the famous Craster Kippers; the smokery being located right in the village centre, right opposite The Jolly Fisherman (Craster's local pub, right on the sea-front!)
Although tourist traffic is discouraged from entering the village, there is a large car park just inland, complete with a Tourist Information Centre.

Dunstanburgh Castle
Craster's crowning glory is its coastal path to the north, which leads to the vast remains of Dunstanburgh Castle. Built in the 1300s, it suffered appalling damage by cannon fire during the Wars of the Roses and never recovered. In spite of this (it has been gradually decaying ever since!) it is still a charismatic ruin. Both the coastal path leading to it and the Castle itself promise an unforgettable experience to the visitor!
