Rothbury
and the
Surrounding Area

Rothbury from Jacob's Ladder
Rothbury has to be the ideal tourist centre - a charming and picturesque large village with the facilities of a very much larger town - occupying a
central position in Northumberland which allows visitors to reach all of the County’s attractions by means of a pleasant drive through lovely countryside! Pipers, Rothbury's, Scottish Bagpipes band

Rothbury sits in the beautiful Coquet Valley (pronounced Coe-Ket - not as in Bouquet!), between hills rising to nearly 1,000 feet to the north and over 1,400 feet to the south.

Coquet River, hence Coquetdale, runs right through Rothbury Centre

The village dates back at least to Anglo-Saxon times, although there are abundant signs of much earlier occupation in the many hill-forts scattered about the local countryside. Lake at Cragside House, Northumberland
The centre still largely follows its ancient street plan of the High Street, Bridge Street, Church Street and Market Place but now boasts a fine shopping centre, full of “home-grown” shops - a far cry from the usual UK town centre full of chain stores with little or no individuality!

Parking is unlimited (and free!), though the day-visitor will often find it easier to park in the inexpensive riverside car-park, just a short walk from the village centre. Places of refreshment are never very far away; there are five pub/hotels, several with restaurants, four tea-shops, a well-stocked supermarket and a fine delicatessen!
Visitors will enjoy exploring the pretty village centre and its riverside walks, while guests who choose to stay in its hotels and B&Bs will find that they can benefit from all of its many facilities, whilst remaining only a short walk from the lovely countryside all around.
