Bulletin - March 2010
What to see and where to go in March.

Have you ever wondered about the meaning of 'as mad as a March hare'? These big impressive relatives of the rabbit can occasionally be seen engaged in frantic chases and apparent boxing matches during the late winter and early spring. If you're lucky enough to see this then what you're actually witnessing is a female hare rejecting the advances of potential suitors. If she isn't ready to be wooed then amorous advances are only likely to result in a clip round the ear! Wintering wildfowl, including Long-tailed Duck, Wigeon and Pale-bellied Brent Geese, are still lingering off North Northumberland. Further south, look for Red-throated Divers in Druridge Bay. The early months of the year are a very good time to look for Roe Deer, Red Squirrels and Otters. And of course Spring has arrived so everything is changing.
