The
accommodation North Croft accommodates four easily with the possibility
of a cot, if required. Whereas children are welcome we would advise that the cottage
opens directly onto parking space and the road, and safety would need to be considered.
Well behaved pets are also welcome, by arrangement. Smokers are requested not
to smoke in the cottage.
The main bedroom has a king size bed and the second bedroom has twin beds.
The bathroom has a bath, shower, toilet and hand basin. Down stairs there is a
living room with TV and video, radio and CD player, a selection of family friendly
videos, and also a small collection of reading materials. Maps of the surrounding
area are available together with tourist information. There is a little collection
of toys and games for evenings in with older children. The kitchen has an oven,
microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and a dining area. The cottage is heated
by very effective storage heaters which can be adjusted to taste (electricity
charges are included in the tariff). There is a wood burning stove for chilly
evenings.
An outhouse provides storage for logs and also acts as a drying room for walking
gear.
North Croft was built in 1828 and was the home of the village
carrier, who carried the post and more general goods. It still has the village
letter box in its walls. The cottage is set in the beautiful village of Snitter
which has remained largely unchanged. The cottage has been refurbished trying
to retain much of the original feel, with a large inglenook fireplace, a wood
burning stove (logs provided), beamed ceilings, lovely old doors and lots of period
decorative touches. Furnishings are old cottage style rather than modern, but
are comfortable and renovated. There is an old writing desk by the window - an
ideal spot for writing and reflection.
Snitter is situated just two miles to the west of Rothbury, it is on the edge
of Northumberland National Park, and is well placed for touring, walking and cycling.
Cragside is just 10 minutes drive to the east, and Wallington Hall 25 minutes
drive to the south. Alnwick Garden and Castle are just 25 minutes drive to the
east.
